about

Hang the Beat, melodic rhythmic flow of the " Hang "and Drums. Electronic and acoustic meditative songs :) just a trip around the world for dreamers and lovers of this new instrument. Performed and Composed by Rafael Sotomayor and a few Guest.

Rafael Sotomayor is one of very few hang drum players in the world.
He was born in Santiago de Chile. Carried by his thirst for knowledge, he traveled 8 years around the world. In 2006 Rafael, painter and self-taught musician, founded the art collective TheArtOfFusion with the aim to unite different cultures and art forms by combining different music elements from many parts of our globe. Also as a composer, Rafael collaborates with his own creativity in a variety of musical styles, always looking for an unusual expression. In 2003 he encountered the Hang, an instrument with a new sound - invented in Switzerland in the year 2000 - inspired by the Caribbean Steel Drum and the Gatham, which is a percussion instrument from India. The hang drum is a rare hand made instrument, its new sound is the perfect medium for Rafael in order to combine different cultures and music styles in a novel way.

About TheArtOfFusion project:

TheArtOfFusion is a music and performance project from Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Our unique sound consists of a remarkable fusion combining elements from electronica, jazz, psychedelic rock, to world fusion, pop, funk, drum and bass and reggae.TheArtOfFusion is known for its energetic and melodic live performances, rather telling stories with our music than simply rattling through our repertoire and taking our audience on an organic journey.

The core of the this project consists of:

Rafael Sotomayor - Vocals, Hang and Electronics
Lorenzo Dolce - Saxophone and Electronics
Tomek Witiak - E. Guitar
Volker Kehl - Drum set, Acoustic and Electronic
Robin Schwarzfeld - Keyboard and Synth

TheArtOfFusion reaches a wide range of audience across the European Boders and a high popularity through the internet. Our project has so far been supported by the Goethe Institut, the city government of Frankfurt and "Initiative Musik".

Some press voices about us:
„TheArtOfFusion, a band of European musicians led by Chilean-born Rafa Sotomayor, provided a riveting headlining set. With Sotomayor on the Hang (often referred to as Hang drum), this group unleashed the most potent sound to come out of this PIJF and left a lasting impression.“ -The Star

„When Hang and Rafael Sotomayor got together, they knew the world is ready for what their music has in store. Stirring a wild following from the band's exceptional, clever mergence of rhythms across the globe, get ready for a whole lot of afro-beat, latin rock and smooth as butter jazz from their set.“ -Time Out

„What makes the project so special is that no performance is the same. With different guest artists, such as dancers, visuals and different musicians we always experience a new combination.“ - Platform

We hope we could convince you and would be very pleased if you fell interested to visit of facebook or youtube channel
